Working Family Homelessness Fuels Education Disconnect

Some 92,476 people in families with children received help from a homelessness service provider in 2023-24, an increase of 4,654 in the two years since 2021-22.
    There is a growing number of children and families moving from couch to couch, or sleeping in cars and tents, looking for the next safe place. This means parents miss work, and can slip into unemployment while children disengage from school.

AERO chief Jenny Donovan’s recent report suggesting a majority of Year 9 students in Australia are only writing at a primary school level is correct. UNSW Epicentre of Fresh Approach to Economics

The new Manos Institute for Cognitive Economics at UNSW Sydney will investigate how human reasoning influences financial and other decision-making, helping people to make better economic choices. It is also Australia’s first economics “lab” - akin to those common in the physical sciences - and the world’s first dedicated laboratory for economic theory.
   Entrepreneur Bill Manos donated $2.5 million for the new Institute. Read more
