Teachers Re-Imagine their Public School: Evidence Supporting Innovations in K-12 Facility Design

Teachers indicated enthusiasm for re-organizing a school into physical Communities of Practice where teachers could be given private workstations, collaboration tables, conferencing facilities, refreshments, direct access to the outdoors and resource storage in communal “hives”, the objective being a stronger sense of community, more opportunities for collaboration and mentoring, and a more powerful process of identity-building. Thousands of Homeless Children Seek Services

Shocking statistics released show 13,300 unaccompanied children aged 12-17 sought out specialist homelessness services in 2023-24. Of those children, 2,443 were aged 12-14, 96% were alone, 6% were in a grouping of children, and 63% were female.
    Tragically, 3 in 4 unaccompanied children (77%) who were homeless when support started were still homeless when support ended in 2023-24.

Teachers' Depression, Anxiety and Stress Three Times National Norm

Nine out of 10 Australian teachers are experiencing severe stress, and nearly 70% say their workload is unmanageable.
   A new study from researchers at UNSW Sydney - the first to examine rates of depression, anxiety and stress in Australian teachers - has found they experience these mental health issues at three times the national norm.  Researchers found that 90% of teachers reported moderate to extremely severe levels of stress. Mobile Makerspace Visits NT Schools

UNSW Engineering has been inspiring kids in rural schools and community centres across the Northern Territory after the launch of its new Makerbus.  The concept is taking UNSW’s Makerspaces – special workshops on campus filled with free tools and technology for students, staff and alumni to use – out onto the road in a converted Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The Makerbus carries tools and equipment customised to suit the children visited. Read more
