How to Free up 106 Million Hours for Teaching

The idea for a central bank of resources has been floated by the recent Productivity Commission investigation into education which should, the Commission feels, free up teachers’ time and take some of the slog out of their work. NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarship Winners

NSW’s 15 best teachers have been rewarded with a 2026 Premier’s Teacher Scholarship. The scholarships are designed to enrich the learning experiences of students in the classroom, and to support teachers to explore their focus areas.
   The scholarship program, open to NSW teachers from government and non-government schools and preschools, and to teachers at TAFE NSW, provides each recipient with $15,000  for a study tour. Read more

UTS Plan to Scrap Education

UTS has announced it would close its International Studies and Education – including all teacher training – and Public Health schools as a part of a plan to reduce the total number of schools from 24 to 15.
   It’s part of management’s plan to cancel 31% of all teaching, including 167 courses and 1,101 subjects and slashing up to 400 jobs. Staff and unions have expressed their outrage that the cuts come while the uni has spent millions on consultants. Read more
