Disbelief at NSW Suspension Numbers

One in five New South Wales public school students has been suspended or expelled at least once before finishing school, raising concerns about the long-term impacts of exclusionary discipline and the need for alternative behavioural support.
   A longitudinal study from QUT is the first to track individual students’ disciplinary exclusions over time using population data from more than 71,000 NSW public school students. Read more

Social communication disorders (SCD) involve persistent verbal and non-verbal communication difficulties, significantly impacting children and adolescents’ social interactions. Traditional interventions, while valuable, face practical limitations.
   Flinders University education experts made a review of 11 studies of VR tools for SCD encompassing both autism spectrum disorder-specific and broader SCD populations.

A 10-hectare parcel of land in Wollert north of Melbourne will home Hume Anglican Grammar’s fourth campus in the area. It is the largest designated non-government school site in Melbourne.
   Principal of Hume Anglican Grammar, Bill Sweeney said, "This new campus allows us further to enrich our educational offerings and support more local families with high-quality private schooling."

Teen’s AI-Powered Auslan Solution Earns Major Prize

Melbourne-based 15-year-old Faiz Noorani is the inventor of Access Lens - an AI-powered solution using augmented reality to improve real-time Auslan translation to assist Deaf and hard of hearing Australians.
   Motivated by the lack of accessible Auslan learning tools, Faiz also envisioned Access Lens as an educational platform offering interactive, self-paced lessons. The idea won Faiz a $10k prize which he will reinvest in product development. Read more
