Student numbers have more than doubled from 30 to 75, and the school has seen the graduation of its very first Year 12 HSC cohort this year. Year 9 is a tipping point where girls are right in the thick of it. Their hormones are surging, they’re trying to work out who they are, and their desire for independence is clashing with their need for belonging. It’s the year many girls start to feel more like adults than children, but they don’t have the same sense of perspective or impulse control. We see a huge shift in confidence, body image, and social dynamics around this age.

A national study of 256 public school principals has found principals struggling with their wellbeing and suffering from insomnia, nightmares, stress, exhaustion, physical illness, trauma and PTSD.
   Principals in the public school system are also facing escalating psychosocial risks, including violence, burnout and emotional exhaustion. The study included 298 critical incident testimonies from the public school principals. Read more

Hate Speech - Everywhere and Coercive

‘Mind your language’, a phrase that has never had more meaning than now. Language is the method by which extremists drive their agenda and drive division, and extremist language is appearing everywhere, online of course, but in also in places where passions can be co-opted and redirected. Extremist language is increasingly surfacing in mainstream areas such as anti-immigration protests and in education environments. Read more

'Nudifying' Australian School Children Prevented

This was never going to be trouble: a nudifying app that converts images into nudes.
   Now eSafety has made the provider of three of the world’s most widely used ‘nudify’ apps to withdraw its service from Australia after school children were subjected to mischief and lasting harm.
   The providers were marketing features like undressing ‘any girl’.
