For Invitational Education to evolve robustly as a theory of practice, it must increasingly integrate insights from contextual research, especially on equity, diversity, and systemic barriers. When integrated with contextual well-being frameworks, IE’s principles of intentionality and respect can become more responsive to diverse socio-cultural conditions and the lived realities of marginalized learners. Contextual well-being and Invitational Education both champion educational environments that nurture human potential, though they approach this aim from different angles. Read more

More than half of school principals have experienced physical violence, verbal abuse, gendered violence and sexual harassment in the workplace. Principals from across Australia told researchers that they “felt at risk” and “hated going to work”. One principal was “assaulted by a parent” while another “had a recurring dream that [they were] shot in the head” as a result of the trauma they were experiencing.

Is It Offensive or Defensive Language?

Being offensive with language may be quite simple. When we direct these words toward others, we intend to offend. Many profane expletives are meant to offend the listener.
These words are like verbal weapons that have the intention to hurt, humiliate, or provoke. The sender wants to do damage to the receiver, or inspire a reaction. There is no attempt to soften the blow. Blatant words are implemented for a blatant intent.
