Boost for SOME Lab’s Explicit Maths Teaching

La Trobe’s Science of Mathematics Education (SOME) Lab, was launched in 2025 to train teachers how to break down mathematical concepts into clear, logical steps to replace other methods that have left many students struggling with basic maths. The facility will receive a $2.5 million donation by the Bertalli Family Foundation to use its foundations in evidence-based learning to address Australia’s mathematics crisis.

Social Media Ban’s (Positive) Effect on a School’s Environment

Ava, a Year 9 student at Loreto Normanhurst, which moved on a socials ban before the national under 16s restriction came into effect, has noticed that a limiting of screens has opened up her time for other activities.
