Free Computer Coding Days

Flinders University is offering free workshops to help more girls from Year 7 to Year 12 gain programming skills. The event is run in partnership with the Girls Programming Network (GPN) which has been running since the 1990s in NSW and now operates in Victoria, ACT, Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia.
   More than 40 high school girls and others are invited to register for this month’s first GPN at the Tonsley campus. Read more

Educators are increasingly facing ‘baiting’ questions, classroom disruptions and a rise in disrespectful behaviour linked to viral ‘manfluencer’ social media content.
   One Australian study found that 1 in 4 girls felt unsafe at school due to the behaviours of boys. And women teachers have reported a spectrum of harassment - from verbal harassment designed to belittle them to physical intimidation in the schoolyard. Read more

Canned Anxiety

28% of students are drinking energy drinks and 39% are eating more foods like chips and chocolate when studying long hours or late at night, 25% of students cut back on exercise in the lead up to exams. A survey of 1000 students conducted by ReachOut found that of those turning to energy drinks, 22% are consuming two daily, and almost 14% reported consuming three or more energy drinks daily.
