Protecting Schools Against Edtech Vendor Data Breaches

An American edtech company faced a significant data leak in 2021, with a hacker gaining access to the information of 10.1 million students, including their email and home addresses, birth dates and medical information. After the initial attack, the company failed to notify some school districts of the breach for more than two years, leaving the information of more than 380,000 students at continued risk. Data breaches can destroy trust between administrators and vendors as well as schools and families.

Augmented Reality Helps Children with STEM

Researchers put cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) ‘Immersive Visual Learning Environment’ (AR-IVLE) technology on trial with 84 Year 1 and 2 students and five teachers in a Victorian primary school, enabling researchers to assess how effectively young children engaged in their learning.

Top Uni Meets Underprivileged Student Target Early

The Gateway Admission Pathway that assists students from indigenous and underprivileged backgrounds reach university has also seen them match peers in results and retention at UNSW.
   This year, more than half (56%) of commencing domestic undergraduates attended a public/government school and close to 1800 students enrolled at UNSW through Gateway  - which considers additional factors to the ATAR. Read more

The Schools For Our Future inquiry, chaired by Sharan Burrow AC, is examining the adequacy, condition and future readiness of public school facilities, and the extent to which current capital investment meets the needs of growing student populations, modern curriculum requirements and safe learning and working environments.
   The inquiry is seeking submissions from students, teachers, principals, support staff, parents and family members. Read more
